Day 1: Makassar / Airport – Lake Tempe – Sengkang
On arrival at Airport meeting service by our Guide and start your overland drive to Sengkang, a quiet little town by Lake Tempe noted for its colorful silk Sarongs. The road will go through Karaengta Nature Reserve where you may see the rare Sulawesi’s black monkeys (Macaca nigra). Afterward, proceed to Sengkang and we shall try to catch the beautiful view of the sunset by taking a boat ride at Lake Tempe. Lunch on the trip then dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Sengkang – Palopo – Tana Toraja
After having some breakfast at the hotel, you will visit a traditional silk weaving home industry. You may want to bring home some silk products as souvenirs, then leave for Toraja via Palopo an important fishing port at the Bay of Bone. After lunch at a local restaurant, will drive about 2 hours to Rantepao through mountain ranges and winding road offers superb views. As the first encounter with Toraja, we will visit Nanggala which is a traditional village with 14 big rice barns in front of two Toraja houses of the former king of Nanggala.Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 3: Full-day Toraja Excursion
Breakfast at the hotel, then a full day excursion will be exploring highlights of the region. Visit the cliff graves at Lemo where burial chambers are cut out of the rock and several balconies are filled with “tau-tau” effigies of the dead. The ancient cave graves at Londa buried many members of the local nobility. Young village guides with kerosene lamps could escort you to enter the caves to see skeletons and old coffins, with a nominal fee. Visit Ke’te Kesu, a traditional village famous for its woodcarving and paintings. After lunch at a local restaurant, we will visit the hanging grave at Marante village and Rantepao Market which popular with handicraft and souvenir shops is an interesting place to visit before returning to your hotel. Next is dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 4: Toraja Excursion and Village Walk
Breakfast then drive to Pallawa an excellent village to see big and beautiful “Tongkonan” or Toraja house. Afterward, drive up to Batutumonga, located 1300 meters above sea level, worth for the superb views over Rantepao and surrounding valleys. After light lunch, you will start the village walk. This two to three hours walking experience will explore the seldom-visited tourist path through small village compounds, with plantations of coffee, vanilla, cloves, bamboo trees, and walk through the rice field. It is a truly beautiful descent from Pana to Tikala where the car is waiting to transport you back to the hotel. Next is dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 5: Tana Toraja – Makassar Airport
After breakfast, we will take your departure to Makassar Airport with refreshments and lunch on the trip. There will be ample opportunity for a photo stop before arriving at the Airport for your afternoon flight to next destination. And the tour ends
