The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara has provided a circular for the closure of three Gili in an effort to prevent the spread of Corona in Gili Islands. To this date, there have been no cases or positive corona sufferers in the Gili Islands, but the local government is making every effort to prevent the coronavirus. This policy was agreed at a regional meeting on March 15, 2020.

During the meeting, regional leaders agreed to close sea access of several ports in West Nusa Tenggara, such as:

  1. Pemenang Port, and other Ports on three of Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air) in North Lombok
  2. Senggigi Harbor in West Lombok
  3. Specific Terminal that serves tourists in the West Nusa Tenggara region.

The policy is also accompanied by strict supervision at other ports that are permitted to operate, such as:

  1. Harbor Crossing of Lembar to Padangbai
  2. Harbor Crossing of Kayangan to Pototano
  3. Sape Harbor Crossing to Labuhan Bajo or Waikelo
  4. Long-Distance Ferry of Lembar to Surabaya
  5. Harbor that serves general passengers.

Strict supervision was implemented from March 16, 2020 and the closure of the port will be carried out from March 17, 2020 until the next 14 days.

The Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, Zulkieflimansyah said, “We are temporarily, for the past two weeks closing mobility to Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air.”

According to Zul, the closure was a serious step by the government to anticipate and be aware of the spread of the coronavirus. In addition to temporarily closing the three Gilis, the regional government will also spray disinfectants throughout the island and clean them up.

Another anticipatory step taken by the Governor is a strict inspection carried out at Lombok International Airport (Central Lombok Regency). In addition, Lombok Airport routinely cleans public facilities located in the airport terminal area. In collaboration with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the airport is also checking the body temperature of passengers in both the domestic and international arrival areas using a thermal scanner and thermal gun. They also provide hand sanitizers spread over 20 points that can be utilized by airport service users.
